a blessing for a covenant
my best friend from college married her partner of 12 years this last weekend—I was honored to be a bridesmaid and the officiant (we made it work!). this was my first wedding not in a church/religious setting, and to keep it from being just official legal language, I wanted there to be some words that spoke to the beautiful love Brandy and Peter share.
so, I wrote this blessing.
a blessing for a covenant
in the adventure of youth and wonder, you found one another.
may you, in the days to come, never cease to seek one another.
when storms cloud your view and disorder cascades from the sky,
may you remember the home you have built, and the safety of your love.
when deserts of scarcity fill the horizon and threaten hope,
may you remember the companion who has already walked through wilderness with you.
when twilight gleams after the longest of nights,
may you find relief in the illumination of your love.
when spring sings the song of newness and awakening,
may you notice the birth of fresh blossoms within your ever-growing love.
when gardens of plenty display the fruit of joy and abundance,
may you create time to dwell in the goodness all around you.
in all that these days together might hold, may you Brandy and Peter, remember the everlasting truth that is sustained in this covenant;
that you have found the one who sees you,
the one who has grown with you,
the one who has chosen you,
and the one who loves you.
may it be, may it be so.
